Will Break Beside Each Other
Anothertwistafate and Sueno, both looking to acquire qualifying points toward the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve, head a field of 10 entered for Saturday’s 38th running of the Stonestreet Lexington Stakes.
Run at 1 1/16 mile on the main track, the Stonestreet Lexington will be run as the ninth race on Saturday’s 11-race program with a 5:34 p.m. ET post time. First post time Saturday is 1:05 p.m. The race carries a purse of $200,000 and Kentucky Derby points to the top four finishers of 20-8-4-2.
The current cutoff mark to make the Derby field is 37.5 points.
Runner-up to Cutting Humor in the Sunland Park Derby in his most recent start, Anothertwistafate stands 24th on the Derby leaderboard with 30, counting an expected entry from Japan, Master Fencer. Trained by Blaine Wright, Anothertwistafate will break from post position 4 and be ridden by Javier Castellano.
Sueno is trained by Keith Desormeaux, who won this race last year with My Boy Jack. Sueno, who has accumulated his 28 points, which is 26th on the list, with runner-up finishes in the Sham and Southwest Stakes and a third-place finish in the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby. He'll be ridden by Corey Lanerie and break from post position 3.
It is unlikely that any other entrant in the Lexington has accumulated enough points to earn a Derby spot, even with a victory on Saturday. Harvey Wallbanger has 10 points, leading the rest of the field. If he were to win the Lexington, he'd need defections to make the Kentucky Derby.
Returning to the scene of his biggest victory is Knicks Go with 18 points. Trained by Ben Colebrook, Knicks Go won last fall’s Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland before going on to a runner-up finish in the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. He has been off form in his last few starts, finishing seventh in the Gotham Stakes last time out. Knicks Go will break from post position seven and be ridden by Albin Jimenez.
