
Liberty Center for Survivors of Torture has offered services for restoring hope and providing healing to over 400 torture survivors, in over 45 countries, who reside in Pennsylvania, Delaware and southern New Jersey since 2001. The Center offers survivors opportunities to regain their sense of self-worth, renew their ability to enjoy life, openly express their fears and hopes, and face the future with confidence.
The Liberty Center works towards the goal of amelioration of the effects of torture as well as advocates for its ultimate discontinuation with assistance from both professional and lay volunteers through the following activities:
Direct Services to Survivors of Torture: Liberty Center provides intensive case management to survivors of torture coordinating legal, health (physical/psychological), vocational, educational and social services.
Professional Training: Liberty Center sponsors learning opportuhties for legal, health (physical and behavioral), educational and social service providers offering both CEU/CLE/CME credits as well as volunteers internships for gradutate studens in related fields.
Hope Restoration: Liberty Center uses community volunteers to counteract the damage caused by torture by creating positive, healing relationships which include gathering needed material goods, sharing social events and distributions of tickets to community events.
International Collaboratons: Liberty Center maintains relationship with sister organizations in Guatemala, Mexico, Cameroon and Liberia.
