  Refugee Resettlement
Young Burmese Refugee, Eh Naygay Hso, celebrates her first Halloween in America.

LCFS offers social, legal, educational and health care access for foreign-born children, adults and families seeking security, safe haven and a new life in the United States.

Refugee Resettlement Services, including federally-funded assistance with family reunification, housing, employment, access to health care and education are offered to hundreds of refugees each year in the five-county Southeast Pennsylvania area, and now in central PA through the new Lancaster office. Provided in collaboration with previously-settled relatives and volunteers from local congregations, refugee resettlement services are intended to effect a smooth transition to life in the local community and to promote economic self-sufficiency. For information, call (215) 747-7500, (717) 397-4757.  or contact the program administrator at refugee@lcfsinpa.org.

Please see our list of volunteer opportunities.

For information about providing material aid to newly-arriving refugees please see non-cash donations.

What is the What  is the story of Sudanese "Lost Boy", Valentino Achak Deng, told with the help of author, Dave Eggers.  This highly-readable book not only recounts the story of Valentino's flight from his village and travels in Southern Sudan, but also tells of the process and experience of being resettled in the United States.  Reading this book will help potential co-sponsors to better anticipate the challeges refugees face as they try to find their way in the United States.

What is the What is One Book, One Philadelphia's selected book for 2008, and is currently available at all branches of the Free Library of Philadelphia.  It can also be purchased at
