To give your students a history experience, schedule a tour of Historic Mansker's Station. Group tours begin at the Welcome Center where students can view our introductory film, learn more about the area's history in our museum, and shop among our "Kids Corner" area in the gift store.
Depending on size, the group may be divided into two or more smaller groups for their visit at both Mansker's Fort and the Bowen Plantation House. A tour of the fort includes visiting the large Blockhouse and several smaller cabins. Weather permitting, students can also do a variety of chores and their visit concludes with a musket firing demonstration. The Bowen Plantation House is original to the site and was built in 1787. Here students can see the progression of Middle Tennessee from fort life to plantation.
After your visit to Historic Mansker's Station, eat lunch under one of the picnic shelters located in Moss Wright Park. Shelters are available for no additional cost to school groups, but must be reserved at the time of your historic site reservation.
Additional Tour Information
To give your students a better experience, and to preserve the Bowen Plantation House, we cannot accommodate groups larger than one hundred (100) per day.
The group rate for twenty (20) or more students is $2.00, all teachers are free, and one adult chaperone per ten (10) students is free. Regular admission is charged for remaining parents or chaperones.
