TREAD LIGHT ADVENTURE TRAVEL

Tread Light Adventure Travel is the brain child of Michael Hughes - that's me. I have been playing in the woods most of my life. Along the way I picked up outdoor adventure skills such as camping, nature photography, backpacking, cycling, caving, and recreational kayaking.

My education and work took me into the world of advertising, marketing and event planning. Over the years I have had opportunities to turn my professional experience towards my personal interests. After years of planning and developing outdoor programs from day hikes and backpacking trips to coordinating the Nashville Earth Day Festival, I decided to take my interests and abilities one step further and created Tread Light Adventure Travel. Now, rather than just sharing experiences through my travel photography and stories, I have been able take friends with me to see and experience these places in person.

Tread Light Adventure Travel is, as its name indicates, light adventure travel that leaves minimal impact on the environment - tread lightly throughout your light adventure. Leave only footprints, take only photographs.

Our travels include multi-sport activities and adventures to some of the most beautiful places on earth - from my own back yard in Tennessee to locations abroad. My guests and I have had the privilege of hiking through the incredible scenery of the Big South Fork NRA, of kayaking with seals and other marine life along Vancouver Island, of rafting the wild and beautiful Pacuare River in Costa Rica, of backpacking in the Sierras and along the AT, and many more adventures. Come join us!

I consider myself a quiet environmentalist. I don't stand on a soapbox and beat people over the head with my views of environmental conservation and preservation. I trust in people's good will and common sense. I believe that by helping folks to experience the natural environment, they will get a better understanding of nature. Hopefully, that understanding instills a better appreciation of what is out there; and that appreciation creates a desire to protect and preserve that which people experience.

This web site invites you to share my interests and my world. You may choose only to peruse some photographs and read notes from the trail. You may come join us for one of the many free local day trips. You may join us for a light adventure weekend or multi-day, multi-sport excursions. I hope you enjoy your time with me, however you choose to spend it. I also hope you get to learn something along the way.

Thanks for stopping by. See you on the trail!
Michael Hughes
