French artist Elisa Cossonnet made her American debut at The Arts Company in January 2004, followed by a successful debut in Paris, France. Her artistic career began as she endured a severe battle with anorexia, expressing her suffering and isolation through her drawings and paintings - using her art as an uncensored voice allowing her to be heard. She completed her baccalaureate in Plastic Arts and History of Art and her Superior National Diploma in Plastic Arts at the L'Ecole des Beaux Arts. Through illustration assignments at a number of advertising agencies, she created a variety of products including postcards, calendars, children's books and other graphic work, as well as her insightful sketches. Experimenting with new colors, her visual language continues to depict the highs and lows of her everyday life relating to the mass public.
For her 2005 exhibit at The Arts Company, Elisa presented her new series of self portraits, plus a new series of work on canvas. With her signature wit, she looks in the mirror each morning and sketches what she sees there, a daily exercise she uses to test new colors, lines, and ideas. A recent visit to Mexico has influenced her newest works with a crisp palette of colors. For a couple of weeks, Cossonnet will be Artist-in-Residence at The Arts Company as she also travels the United States to gather new insight and experiences for her artwork.
