One of the delightful things about Grand Lake Gardens is the rich array of activities offered to all residents.
Regular monthly van trips to the Oakland Symphony and other cultural events are always popular. These include going to the Fine Art Museums in San Francisco to see the latest exhibits as well as enjoying Senior Tea at our own local Oakland museum.
We offer a wide range of classes in Chi Gung, Spanish Culture & Conversation, Dance, and Music Appreciation. Our Fitness program consists of classes with YMCA Wellness Director and a Geriatric Fitness Specialist as well as our popular fitness gym which offers NuStep, Treadmill and ProCycle machines.
In season, residents head to the ballpark for Oakland A’s games or other sporting events. Throughout the year, groups enjoy shopping excursions and our dinner outings at popular East Bay restaurants.
Many residents take advantage of the Posit Science Brain Fitness Program, an award-winning, computer-based exercise program that enhances mental sharpness. Studies have shown how the Brain Fitness Program strengthens memory and increases processing speed in healthy aging adults. The classic and new Insight classes are offered continuously.
Grand Lake Gardens’ Life Stories class is also very popular. Residents document and reflect on family and personal journeys. Poetry reading is another favorite activity in which residents share from their favorite authors or their own written work.
Many residents make Grand Lake Gardens' activities a part of their daily life while others enjoy just “doing their own thing.” It's all about choices and having several each day to choose from. Residents are encouraged to make suggestions for classes, trips, entertainment, etc. that interest them.
