Warhol's Marilyn Winks!

Pittsburg, PA., October 19, 2007

Digital Dave today presented the Andy Warhol Museum with a Winking Marilyn lenticular print. Part of what came to be known as The Marilyn Project, the four foot square print brings to life the original Warhol art of Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn winks as viewers walk by.

The brainchild of Chairman Elizabeth Nichols, The Marilyn Project was the art centerpiece for Swan Ball, an annual white-tie fundraiser for Cheekwood Museum and Botanical Gardens in Nashville, Tennessee.  

Lenticular artist David Turner, also known as Digital Dave, donated his time to create the three (3) four foot square panels with the blessings of both the Andy Warhol Foundation and the Marilyn Monroe Estate. Artist and illustrator Jerry Dillingham donated his time to digitally paint the winking frame to match the original art. The Harmon Group donated the lenticular lenses for the project and Imagen donated the printing and finishing.

The winking Marilyns were well recieved and as one party goer said “Everyone got winked and they loved it!” One of the prints is now in the Marilyn Monroe Museum  and the third is in the private collection of J. Donald Nichols.

Warhol was rather fond of lenticulars and had a small personal collection of them. He also created several pieces of lenticular art. As well, he experimented with 3D prints, 3D movies and holograms.
