Artist Kevin Dresser was born in Rochester, New York in 1971, and is currently based in Brooklyn, New York. After teaching himself a thing or two about painting with spray cans in New York City, Kevin then picked up a brush for the first time in 1999. His earliest brush paintings were found on subway platforms and derelict vehicles. Though he has since moved his painting into the studio, Kevin still maintains a connection to the streets by using sheet metal as canvases for his work.
Since retiring himself from spray cans, however, Kevin has pushed himself to produce work with a whimsical permanence significantly altered from the ephemeral throw-ups of his graffiti years. His paints still drip as a visceral, natural sign of rapid application, but his graphic works also reflect a love of relics - moveable type patterns and signage - that represent glorious but faded Americana. He may have quit the streets in one sense, but they still form the foundation for his studio work.
