Friedrich Korler, Austria. Ornate and extremely fine double barrel 20-bore flintlock fowler, ca. 1822.  Weight: 7 ½ lbs.  14 3/8” LOP.  Beautifully filed, 30 ½”, barrels are eight sided near the breech transitioning to sixteen sided toward the muzzle. Maker’s name inlaid in silver at the breech and bores are near mint. Peerless quality locks have roller frizzens and function with watch-like precision. Superb, highly figured, stock with numerous delicate, elaborately pierced, brass inlays along with several beautifully sculpted raised silver inlays of oak leaves and acorns. Also note the ivory and ebony inlaid star on the raised cheek piece. Overall an absolutely stunning gun in near mint condition throughout. It is interesting to note from the inscription engraved on the silver wrist escutcheon that this magnificent fowler was apparently given as a Christmas present exactly 185 years ago.
