William Smith, London. Exceptionally fine 20-bore single barreled flintlock Sporting Gun #2612, ca. 1824.  Wt. 5 Lbs.  Stock Dimensions: 13 ¾”x 1 ½”x 2 5/8”x straight. Superb 32½”,  3-stage, figured Damascus barrel with most of a re-browned finish and a fine bright bore (.608”dia.) and bright breech with four inlaid platinum lines and touch hole liner. The lock with typical Smith, gracefully upswept, flash pan support and a very unusual self-priming waterproof design to the pan and pan cover. Peerless quality lock with extremely powerful mainspring and equally stout and finely tuned feather spring that snaps the frizzen  back with great authority accounting for the lightening-fast ignition for which this maker is reknowned. Beautifully engraved iron mounts showing little use. Extremely rare curly maple half-stock retaining most of the original varnish. Overall absolutely peerless quality and fine condition throughout. Capable of placing nearly 50% of the shot load within a 30” circle at 30 yards!
