John Dickson and Sons, Edinburgh. Extremely rare 29-bore (.54 cal.) percussion, two-groove, double barreled express rifle, #2000, completed 17th August 1860 for William Fraser, Esq. Weight: 7 ¾ lbs. Stock dimensions: 14 3/8” LOP. Superb 30” Damascus barrels retaining 70% of the original brown finish with absolutely brilliant, mint, bores . Breeches with platinum vent plugs retain 80% of the original hardening colors. Original nipples show virtually no use and the nipple recesses within the breeches show no corrosion whatever. Full length file-cut top rib with four folding-leaf rear sights out to 300 yds. Peerless quality bar-action sidelocks are mechanically perfect retaining much of the original fading hardening colors and the stalking safety latches retain much of their original brilliant fire blue finish. Lock internals are crisp and brilliant as the day they were completed. The patchbox in the right side of the butt stock is beautifully engraved and retains traces of the original finish. Game scene engraved trigger guard and butt plate retain about 40% of the original black finish. Highly figured stock retains most of the original finish with only a few very minor handling marks and all checkering is untouched, sharp, and crisp as the day this gun left Dickson’s in 1860. Magnificent deluxe original multi-compartmented, pig-skin-lined, oak case complete with belted-ball mould and every imaginable accessory each residing in it’s own fitted compartment. Also included is the original heavy leather outer cover which is identified by the same name that is engraved on the case lid escutcheon, William Fraser, Esq., Kilmuir. Overall an absolutely stunning original set in extremely fine condition throughout and almost impossible to find today as a complete set in this condition.
