Lyon & Lyon, Calcutta. Superb, Massive 8-bore, double-barreled, African Big Game Rifle, ca. 1900. Weight: 16 ½ Lbs. Stock Dimensions: 14 ¼”x 1 ½”x 2 ¼”x ¼” cast-off.  Superb 24 3/16” steel barrels with 4” chambers and brilliant, absolutely mint  bores, retain most of the original black finish. Single fixed 50 yd. rear sight with two folding leaves out to 100 yds and 250 yds. The simple blade front sight, and rear sights retain much original blue finish. The following is engraved atop the nicely file-cut top rib, “Lyon & Lyon 16 Chowringhee Road. Calcutta. J. Lyon Managing Partner Late With Purdey and Sons. London”. The massive Jones Screw-Grip, under-lever, action is tight-as-a-safe and retains much of the original hardening color with little evidence of use and virtually no wear whatever. The breech face is completely un-marked and gives no hint at ever having been fired. Superb back-action locks with rebounding hammers. Anson button forend latch and forend iron retains all the original brilliant hardening color on the hidden surfaces. The original stock has a crack showing in the wrist which has been repaired at some point in the past ... proved sound at the range with original Kynoch Ammunition! Overall, one of the finest condition 8-bore double rifles I have ever seen.
