James Barbar, London.  Extremely rare pair of silver-mounted, 22-bore (.60 cal.), holster pistols by Barbar with mounts by Charles Fox, hallmarks dated 1778.  Overall length 13 ½”.  Beautifully tapered, three-stage, barrels flared at the muzzle with silver inlaid spider foresight. Excellent bores. Breeches and tangs nicely engraved and bear the maker’s name, “Barbar, London”. Peerless quality engraved locks with sliding safeties behind cocks and roller frizzens. Slender, figured, walnut full stocks with shell pattern relief carving behing tang. Silver pommels, wrist escutcheons, and elaborately pierced and engraved side plates. Very minor old repairs to stocks otherwise 100%  original and in extremely fine condition both esthetically and mechanically. Original horn-tipped ramrods with steel worms on hidden ends (one worm a period replacement). Overall an absolutely superb pair of pistols.
