GOOD LUCK COACH GINNY!

Coach Ginny with her "bling" at the 2009 Senior National Olympics in Palo Alto. CA in 2009.

Our beloved Coach Ginny is beginning her 14th year as the head coach for the Pirates.

We are very excited that Ginny Maher will once again be leading our pirates on their voyage. She will be hosting swim camp in May to kick off our season. The camps will run Monday through Thursday each week. The cost is $100 for both weeks for 6 and under swimmers and $95 for both weeks for 7 and older swimmers. More information to follow!

Coach Ginny loves swimming and that is so evident in her enthusiasm as she coaches. She makes sure that the kids that come through the Cottonwood Pirates swim team receive specific swimming instruction to help them become better swimmers. She also gives lots of encouragement to all of the swimmers- no matter what their skill level is at the time. She is a great competitor and a very experienced coach. In fact, she was just named the Female Coach of the Year for High School Swimming.

We are so very blessed to have her as our "fearless" leader!

Coach Ginny definitely "rocks the house" for all the Pirates!

But here are some things you may not know:
  • She also teaches classes at the Brentwood YMCA, is head coach for the Brentwood High School swim team and is beginning her fourth year as Brentwood Middle School’s swim coach.

  • For more than the past 20 years, Coach Ginny has swum with the year-round Music City Masters program, which is part of the United States Masters Swimming organization.

  • She swims 4-5 days a week - just like you!

  • Started swimming as a child and continued through high school in Cincinnati and later at Auburn University

  • Has earned gold medals in the 100 and 200 Freestyle at the Senior National Olympics, setting a national record in the 200 Freestyle.

  • In August 2009, Coach Ginny spent seven days at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. where she competed for the first time at the Senior Games. During the event, Maher finished with personal best times in each race and also won silver, bronze and fourth place awards.
  • She plans to compete again this year at the 2011 Senior National Olympics in Houston, Texas June 32-25!!

Despite her number of swimming obligations, Coach Ginny  -- a proud mother of four and wife of fellow Auburn alum Tony -- also managed to compete in the Music City Marathon last year. Her eldest daughter, Amanda, who swam for the University of Alabama, accompanied her in the half marathon.

Following in their mother’s footsteps -- or strokes -- son Alan swam for the University of Texas, as a senior and elected team captain. Daughter Allison, a senior at Brentwood High, swims for the school team as well as the Nashville Aquatic Club, while son Aaron, a tenth grader, swims for his school team. He also plays football, basketball, baseball and wrestling.
