Follow the River Itinerary

June 13th—Campers arrive!

June 14th—getting to know the group, lake session, packing, prepping

June 15th—Depart!  Drive to Congaree Swamp National Monument and put-on at the Cedar Creek access point.  Paddle about two miles and camp along the creek.

June 16th—Continue on Cedar creek about 7 miles, portage a big log jam and get on the Congaree River.  Camp on a sandy riverbank shortly after portaging. 

June 17th—Continue on the Congaree for 8 miles and find a campsite between the river left Oxbow and the railroad bridge after the RR bridge, before highway 601. You will then be out of the National Monument area.

June 18th—Continue 10 miles down the Congaree past the 601 bridge to the top of Lake Marion. Camp 3 miles south of confluence of the Waterlee R. and Congaree R. on the Santee River in SumpterCounty.  Camp at large bend to the East, south of the Oxbow remains, before reaching the lake. 

June 19th—Follow Santee River south for 19.5 miles through Lake Marion, under RR bridge, to SanteeState Park.  Camp at Lakeshore Campground in Santee State Park.

June 20th—Head south 20 miles through Lake Marion to ChurchIsland.  Check out the old cemetery.  Camp on island. 

June 21st—Travel though diversion Canal into Lake Moultrie and camp on West side of lake at Black’s Camp just as you leave the canal.

June 22nd—Cross Lake Moultrie (10 miles of big open water crossing, probably should start early in the morning).  Camp at CampMoultrie, a Boy Scout camp very close to the dam and CooperRiver

June 23rd—Go through the tailrace canal and lock and onto Cooper River.  Enjoy your last day on the river!  Take off at Dock’s Restaurant. Meet Kaitlin there and load boats.  Drive to JamesIsland and camp there.

June 24thSpend part of the day at the beach, maybe checking out the Angel Oak, and celebrating with a dinner in Charleston.  Drive back to Eagle’s Nest in the afternoon. 

June 25thClean up all your stinky gear, sooth your bug bites, and pack up.  Closing ceremony…

June 26thSession one ends. Time for campers to return home.
