Follow the River Itinerary June 13th—Campers arrive June 14th—getting to know the group, lake session, packing, prepping June 15th—Depart! Drive to June 16th—Continue on Cedar creek about 7 miles, portage a big log jam and get on the June 17th—Continue on the Congaree for 8 miles and find a campsite between the river left Oxbow and the railroad bridge after the RR bridge, before highway 601. You will then be out of the National Monument area. June 18th—Continue 10 miles down the Congaree past the 601 bridge to the top of June 19th—Follow Santee River south for 19.5 miles through June 20th—Head south 20 miles through June 21st—Travel though June 22nd—Cross Lake Moultrie (10 miles of big open water crossing, probably should start early in the morning). Camp at June 23rd—Go through the tailrace canal and lock and onto June 24th—Spend part of the day at the beach, maybe checking out the Angel Oak, and celebrating with a dinner in June 25th—Clean up all your stinky gear, sooth your bug bites, and pack up. Closing ceremony… June 26th—Session one ends. Time for campers to return home. |
