History of MoM

Despite our entrenchment in the world of Americana (and whatever other music we like) Miles of Music was created to sell music to another marketplace entirely. By coincidence a magazine called No Depression had just started. Corrie Gregory and Jeff Weiss, two of the original owners, were fans of the music the magazine was covering and had a connection to the publishers.

A decision was made to advertise in that magazine so we mail order neophytes could figure out how to actually run this kind of business. We expected the magazine to last a few issues and disappear forever because, in our minds, we thought they would quickly run through all of the stories, quickly start repeating themselves and that would be it for them.

The company was started by Jeff Weiss, Corrie Gregory and Jeff Levicke (who left the company in the Winter of 2001), three friends who once worked together in a Los Angeles-area independent record store chain. For the first four years the business was based out of the home of the married Weiss and Gregory in Woodland Hills, CA. As the business grew, home furnishings were replaced by desks and storage racks. Gregory playfully said to Weiss, "If the business gets to our bedroom, I’m leaving."

Miles of Music has grown to a staff of eight with a warehouse in North Hollywood, CA with customers in 26 countries.
