1. Call (615) 726-2696, ext. 110 or ext. 116 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday to make an appointment. Appointments are available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. Appointments are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays as late as 4:00 p.m. We will do our best to accomodate your request for an appointment as soon as possible, but it may be two or three weeks before an appointment is available.

If you wish to apply for The Academy, please call (615) 262-3003, send a letter to The Academy; 822 Woodland St.; Nashville, TN 37206, or send an e-mail to theacademy@urbanhousingsolutions.org The application process for The Academy is different from all of our other programs.
2. Download a copy of our housing application and try to complete it before your appointment. If you want us to consider you for special rent assistance for the mentally ill, people with HIV/AIDS, or people in recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction, you will need to complete those areas of the application. In addition, you will need to provide the following:
Mentally ill--must provide documentation of your illness and a completed homeless verification form
HIV/AIDS--must provide documentation of your illness
In recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction--may require a completed homeless verification form and please see program requirements for Journeys of Hope
Homeless and want to apply for income-based housing at Mercury Courts--must provide a completed homeless verification form and please see special application procedures
3. All appointments (except The Academy, Shelby Courtyard, and Russell Street Apartments) are handled through our leasing office at 411 Murfreesboro Road; Nashville, TN 37210. Be sure to bring a photo ID and proof of income to your appointment. We require 60 days or more of continuous, stable income in order to apply for most of our apartments. Temporary services are not considered stable income. It's important that everyone 16 years of age and older who plans to live in your apartment is present at the application appointment.
4. You will meet with our leasing consultant, who will review your application and ask you additional questions.
5. We will check your rental history and criminal background, as well as verify your income. This process may take up to two weeks--especially if you or your references don't provide us with the documentation requested in a timely fashion.
6. If you're approved, you'll come in for another appointment to sign your lease and other paperwork, go over the rules, and get your keys. You will need to provide us with a full month's rent, deposit, and cleaning fee. If you're required to pay your own electric, you'll need to show us your receipt from NES where you put the electric in your name. Several of our locations have waiting lists; once you are approved, your name will be added to the waiting list and we will contact you when an apartment becomes available.
7. If you have a Section 8 voucher, your apartment will have to be inspected before you can move in.
