The world is full of unimaginable terror and horror we are being bombarded with media images depicting the stark reality of unbelievable cruelty.
There is a growing mass of plastic twice the size of the state of Texas floating in the ocean between Hawaii and the West Coast. There are expanding dead zones in the oceans off every coast on the planet. The polar ice caps are melting at alarming speed. The planet continues to be polluted as more and more toxins are released into the atmosphere. Starvation and disease is spreading as the human condition worsens. There is growing proliferation of arms and genocide. Rain forests are being decimated at increasing rates. Politicians appear powerless to affect sustainable long-term solutions.
And then I read this quote by Mark Morford, a columnist for a San Francisco newspaper.
Stop thinking this is all there is. Realize that for every ongoing war and religious outrage and environmental devastation, there are a thousand counterbalancing acts of staggering generosity and humanity and art and beauty happening all over the world right now on a breathtaking scale. Resist the temptation to drown in fatalism, to shake your head and sigh and just throw in the karmic towel. Realize that this is the perfect moment to change the energy of the world, to step right up and crank your personal volume: right when it seems dark and bitter and offensive and acrimonious and conflicted, there is your opening. Remember magic. And finally believe you are part of a groundswell, a resistance, a seemingly small but actually very, very large impending karmic overhaul, a great shift, the beginning of something important, potent, and unstoppable.
