Heidi O'Gara Jellison launched the Music City Harp Ensemble in Fall 2005, for students 8-18 years old, and an adult ensemble for adults of all ages and levels of playing. The ensemble is conducted in two semesters beginning in September and January. Each semester includes weekly rehearsals, as well as several performances in the Nashville area, providing participants with the opportunity to provide a unique musical experience to the Nashville area, while developing their ensemble skills and repertoire.
Requirements for Participation: Students of all technical backgrounds are welcome to join. Students are not required to take private lessons with Mrs. Jellison to participate. However, those interested in joining MCHE must meet one of the following requirements:
-Minimum 3 months of private lessons with a qualified instructor;
-Completion of the Introduction to Harp class
Having met one of the aforementioned requirements, students will not be required to audition. Each student will, however, play a solo of choice for the Music Director at their first rehearsal. The Music Director will assess each student's skill level at that time and determine placement within the ensemble.
Introduction to Harp Classes, under the instruction of Mrs. Jellison, are offered for beginning students who have had no prior instruction on the harp. Weekly classes - one for youth and one for adults - will be conducted in a group environment and will cover the basic fundamentals of playing the harp. Students completing the class will then be qualified to participate in MCHE the following semester. Proficiency in reading music is a prerequisite for this class. A minimum of 3 students is needed to offer these classes.
