Artist Statement

I've studied art and music for 20 years. In both, I value honesty and ingenuity. Art is my career and our family's livelihood. I've sold paintings all over the USA and in France, Canada, China, Belgium and the Netherlands. I have paintings in regional galleries and have had solo exhibits in Ohio, Tennessee and my home state of Kentucky.

I teach Art Fundamentals, Beginning Guitar classes and Music Theory/Composition for all ages at local art galleries.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist who composes, arranges and records in my humble home studio. I also engineer and produce other musicians and songwriters.

In all things, I aim to simplify expression to something that is pure. Quite often, my paintings are influenced by childrens art and indigenous art from around the world: particularly aboriginal Australian creation paintings, Japanese woodcuts, Peruvian weavings and Tibetan sand paintings. Western painters I admire include Henri Matisse, Paul Klee, Marc Chagall, Mark Rothko and Alexander Calder. My earliest influences were comic books. Like Klee and many other artists, music greatly influences my work as a painter.
