Rare Flemish O/U double barrel, breech loading, boxlock, turn-off flintlock pistol with switch-blade bayonet, ca. 1790.  Overall length: 11 ½”.  Very nicely turned cannon barrels are 6” long and bores are bright. This gun has an interesting action whereby pulling back on the trigger guard causes the left pan cover to slide back exposing the flash pan for the under barrel. This extremely unusual mechanism would allow the barrels to either be fired in sequence or both at the same time. The switchblade bayonet beneath the barrels has a latch release just ahead of the trigger guard bow. Pulling back on that latch allows the bayonet blade to swing out instantly and lock in place extended beneath the barrels. The action body is nicely engraved. Sliding safety mechanism behind the cock.  The silver wire inlaid walnut stock has a few strands of wire missing otherwise this fine pistol retains most of the original finish throughout and is mechanically absolutely perfect. This would have been a very effective self-defense device during it’s time. Very large-for-type and an impressive display piece. Display stand included.
