Dave has been drawing and painting funny faces since early childhood. He took classes at art colleges in New York and San Francisco, where he learned to draw and paint "serious pictures" of naked ladies and bowls of fruit. For several years he traveled and worked odd jobs, taking a sketchbook wherever he went and drawing all the time. Eventually, he returned to art school and received two degrees from DunLaoghaire College of Art and Design, in Dublin, Ireland. He now lives in San Francisco. He once bartended to pay the bills. He has always painted funny faces to be happy. He hopes to make a living making art.
Statement: I make happy art. In my work I try to recapture the joy and vitality of my childhood drawings. I make pictures that are fun to look at. Pictures that are full of vibrant colors, simplified shapes and peculiar creatures that inhabit a playful world of imaginary landscapes. My paintings are celebrations of humor and imagination. The spirit of my pictures is not serious, but I take my work seriously.
