Superb Pair of High Art Dutch, Ivory and Pearl Inlaid, Flintlock Horseman’s Pistols, ca. 1700. Overall length 19 ½” with .50 caliber 12 5/8” tapered, octagon to round, blued barrels retaining quite a bit of the original finish including original gilding. Plain lockplates retain much of the original brilliant blue finish as well. One ramrod a replacement. Said to contain over 2000 ivory and pearl stock inlays, these magnificent pistols have resided over the years in some of the world’s finest collections, having been photographed and documented as one of the finest examples of this period extant. Accompanied by a rare copy of a “Scrap Book” from the early 20th century collection of F. Theodore Dexter, you would be hard pressed to find finer examples.
