Beasley & Co. (Benjamin), Birmingham. Exceptionally nice .577 caliber British military percussion target rifle in original case with original “Minie” bullet mould and all accessories, ca. 1858. Superb 40” barrel with brilliant bore showing the typical, shallow-grooved, slow twist rifling. Standard military sights which were a strict requirement for match competition. Peerless quality lock is mechanically flawless and retains much of the original finish. Nicely engraved iron mounts retain much of the original brilliant black finish. Fully adjustable, single set, trigger. Nicely figured walnut stock, with crisp checkering, shows little use and no abuse retaining much original finish.

This particular rifle shoots a 490gr., conical "Minie" bullet at a muzzle velocity of 1272 ft./sec. with very good accuracy at reasonable open sight hunting ranges. The great advantage of these fine rifles in hunting is in the quick, loading procedure .... simply pour 2 1/2 drams of 2Fg Goex, "Royal Blend", down the muzzle followed by a greased bullet, tamp it down with the ramrod, cap the nipple and you 're ready to go .... no wads or patches to contend with which makes for no muss, no fuss, shot after shot, with no time-consuming bore cleaning between shots. Please see the stop-action photos and the brief video included in the gun photo section .... bearing in mind that target was shot by a fat, old (almost as old as the gun), worn out, hoar headed, man and that the rifle itself is capable of much tighter 50-yard groups than demonstrated on that target!!

Overall a great hunting rifle at a very reasonable price.
