Six CU football players voted First Team All-MSC![]() LEBANON, Tenn. – Cumberland seniors Matt Eads, Freddie Hall and Jesse Montoya, juniors Dexter Elston and Michael Hinson and freshman James McClain were all First Team West Division All-Mid-South Conference selections, as announced by the conference office this week.
CU sophomore running back Travis Carter, sophomore tight end Mitch Reynolds, sophomore defensive lineman Johnny Turner and senior defensive back Darius Johnson were all Second Team selections for the Bulldogs.
Eads ranks 17th nationally in passing yards per game (241.1), 18th in pass efficiency (143.1) and 18th in total offensive per game (244.8). He has 2,652 passing yards this season with 18 touchdowns, completing 56 percent of his passes. The Bluff City, Tenn., native has collected four 300-yard passing games, including a 401-yarder in the season-opener at Campbellsville.
Hall led the Bulldogs with 72 total tackles this season and also added a pair of interceptions and one fumble recovery. He recorded 11 stops at Campbellsville and 10 versus Shorter. The Lebanon, Tenn., native also had interceptions at Campbellsville and Georgetown.
Montoya saved his best for last, collecting a team-best 14 tackles in the upset against No. 11 Lambuth last week. The Atlanta, Ga., native registered five tackles for loss, including one sack. He had seven stops versus Shorter and six at the University of the Cumberlands.
McClain ranks 14th in the country in all-purpose yards per game (141.2) and 21st in kickoff return yards per attempt (23.1). He has totaled 1,553 all-purpose yards this season, including 318 rushing, 635 receiving and 600 on kickoff returns.
McClain scored four touchdowns, two rushing and two receiving, and totaled 315 all-purpose yards against Belhaven this season, earning MSC and NAIA National Player of the Week honors. The Goodlettsville, Tenn., native also scored the tying touchdown in last week’s win over Lambuth on a 94-yard catch and run and recorded 237 all-purpose yards in the contest.
Elston tallied 694 all-purpose yards and scored seven touchdowns this season, four rushing and three receiving. He ranked second on the club in rushing with 328 yards on 70 attempts and caught 23 passes for 297 yards.
Hinson leads the nation in yards per punt attempt (43.0) and ranks 13th in field goals per game (0.90) and 21st in scoring per game (5.50). He led the Bulldogs with 61 points this season, making 31-of-35 extra points and booting 10 field goals, including the game-winner on the final play against Lambuth. The Smyrna, Tenn., native made three field goals at the University of the Cumberlands, including a season-best 48-yarder, and also had three field goals versus Lambuth.
