MISSION: APPALACHIAN BACKPACKSIn a small school in Jefferson County, Tennessee, Mrs. Johnson is reading a story to her class of third graders. MISSION: APPALACHIAN BACKPACKSThen Mrs. Johnson asks her students to take pencils, paper and crayons and draw a picture about the story she had just read. Tommy has such a good picture of it all in his mind, but none of the tools with which to express himself. He doesn’t want to borrow them again – he always has to do that. But, that was in the past. and 300 for grades 3-5. We Went to the MountainsOn August 7, 2004 a caravan of 6 vehicles loaded with Glendalers and
backpacks headed for the Appalachian Mountains and Jefferson City,
Tennessee. |
