Glendale's new online events calendar is now available at
www.glendalebaptist.org/events. This will also be the second link in the website's navigation at www.glendalebaptist.org.
The events calendar will display a list of weekly happenings but site visitors can choose to view events by the day or month. There is also a search box on the top right of the page that will allow site visitors to search for a particular calendar entry by word. For example, if you are curious about deacon group gatherings, you might type the word "deacon" in to see what events are scheduled. Currently, you would see that the Elrod Deacon Group is meeting on October 14 and the Hiett/Owens deacon group is scheduled to meet on October 28.
Clicking on the name of the event will often allow a site visitor to find out more specific information such as the contact person for the event, the location and perhaps even a more detailed description. Also, related events can now be tied together by category.
Underneath the search box are some icons which may be of interest to some site visitors. Clicking on the "floppy disc" icon will allow the site visitor to save the display (either a listing of events or one particular event) to any .ics based calendar. In other words, if you use iCal or Outlook to keep your personal calendar, you can save a Glendale event (or several events) to your personal calendar by clicking on this icon. If you are a Mac user, you can subscribe to events so that your iCal is automatically updated when the Glendale calendar is updated. The calendar is now available as a RSS feed. If you don't know what that means, don't worry about it. Also, events can be emailed or printed by clicking on the "print" or "email" icons. Also, single events can be posted to del.icio.us and digg.com (social bookmarking websites). In other words, someone might visit the Glendale site and see an event that they want to share with others in the world and post the event to other sites.
The events calendar is still in a "beta" stage so please bear with us as we attempt to provide a more user-friendly online resource for Glendalers and visitors. In the meantime, if you would like to make sure that an activity is posted on the events calendar, email submissions to gbc@glendalebaptist.org and provide as much of the following as possible:
Event Title
Date and time (also frequency if the event is more than one day)
Event Description
Location
Any applicable web addresses related to the event
Your name or the primary contact for the event
Your email address or the primary contact person's email for the event
