WALKING THE LABYRINTH: Join Binkley and other sponsoring churches (Chapel Hill Friends Meeting, Chapel of the Cross Episcopal,  Church of Reconciliation Presbyterian, Church of the Advocate Episcopal, St. Thomas More Catholic, United Church UCC, Unity Spiritual Life Center (Durham), University United Methodist) for An Ecumenical Holy Week Opportunity "Walking the Labyrinth" in the Sanctuary of Binkley Baptist Church, 1712 Willow Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Bring & wear socks for walking.  A love offering will be received. The walk takes at least 30 minutes.

WOMENS SACRED DRUM CIRCLE MARCH 21 7 PM   printer  

Come join the Women's Drum Circle: This participatory event is for all women at all levels of drumming experience. It is a time to celebrate and be with our sisters. Come back to rhythms that are inside all of us. Bring your own drum/percussion or play with what we provide. It's fun, relaxing, and a truly unique experience. HOLY WEEK LABYRINTH RETREAT 3/31   printer  

Holy Week Labyrinth Retreat: There is a special opportunity this year to learn more about and experience the labyrinth.  A half-day retreat will be held Wednesday, March 31, 9:30am-12:30pm in the Binkley Sanctuary.  It is open to 25 participants, and will be led by Nancy Corson Carter.  Nancy is a member of Church of Reconciliation and a Presbyterian elder.  She is retired from college teaching, and is a writer, and environmental advocate and retreat leader.  The retreat will consist of gathering, a brief introduction to labyrinths, personal reflection time, walking the labyrinth, additional reflection time and a group closing time. NAMI WALK MAY 1   printer  

NAMI Walk—Saturday, May 1, 10:00 am.  Plan now to walk for mental health awareness!  This 2.3 mile walk will take place at Dorothea Dix State Hospital in Raleigh.  I am told that this is a "safer" walk because it's on a campus. CROP Walk--Sunday, March 21—This is a walk for hunger awareness, in Carrboro-Chapel Hill and also Durham (both walks happening the same afternoon).  Meet at Binkley 2:00 pm.



WOMEN'S RETREAT APRIL 16-18   printer  

JUST US: A weekend with Binkley women to get to know one another better, kick back and relax, talk about important things ~ or nothin' at all. No guest speaker. Just discussion prompts, games, laughter, fun ~ and time to wonder. Music, readings to inspire, poetry to tend the heart. "The Spirit in me greets the Spirit in you. Alleluia. . ." Come Join Us!  April 16-18, 2010, Trinity Center, Salter Path, NC. We begin at 7:30 pm Friday night (dinner is on your own).  Sessions and meals and free time provided through Sunday lunch.  Do take advantage of this opportunity to be at the Trinity Center again!  Registration begins March 7. Due to accessibility concerns (financial, geographical, and physical), the 2011 women's retreat will take place at Avila Retreat Center in Durham.

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS AT BINKLEY!   printer  

DON'T FORGET WEDNESDAY NIGHTS AT BINKLEY: THE PLACE TO BE!!!
There are now several program options for children and adults on Wednesday nights.
-

4:30-5:30 pm, Music and More
: kids meet in the choir room with Leandra; for children in kindergarten through 5th grade - a program using different arts  (story, visual arts, music) to enter Binkley's worship experience and build community (This program will be very similar to the fall semester's Wednesday evening children's program, and it can easily accommodate children who come from time to time.)

-5:30 pm Supper for all: meet in the fellowship hall for dinner; $4 ages 12 and up, $3 for kids; bring your own dishes and utensils! Sign up to help with a dinner team. The tables and chairs will already be set up (thanks to Tom Fewel).  No cooking: receive catered meals, collect money, clean up.  Sign up in the narthex.

-6:10 pm Community time; kids go to choir or child care; adults clean up and then meet formally or informally:

CHILDREN:  for children in kindergarten through 5th grade who can read and who make a commitment to weekly presence at rehearsal - Children's Choir - learning skills of singing to enter Binkley's worship experience and build community  (Families, please email Leandra Strope leandra@binkleychurch.org to register your children for Children's Choir.  This ensemble will prepare music to present in worship services, and singers are asked to commit to being present weekly for rehearsals.)

ADULTS:
Wednesday Nights in Lent (Feb 24, Mar 3, 10, 17 and 24): after supper, during childcare or choir, adults are invited to 3 classes: Bible Study, Creating Mandalas, and Living Our Values as Parents.  Come and join in the Lenten journey, and stop by the Lent materials table in the narthex for brochures and guides for home Lenten reflections.

NETWORKING AND SUPPORT GROUP FOR JOB SEEKERS   printer  

In this time of massive job losses, Binkley has begun a weekly group that meets to energize, create ideas, and develop networking for Binkley members and others who are seeking jobs. The group meets on Wednesdays from 9:30-11 in the church library. Open to all members of the community.  Cynthia Greene is organizing the group.
