e-newsletter

January 2009
Dear Ariane,

Happy New Year!  The first day of the 2009 Women Build project is quickly approaching.  In this e-newsletter we are excited to share some more information about the project and provide details regarding volunteer registration.  Please read on and let's get building!

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

Take part in changing a local family's life for the better by being part of the Women Build 2009 project in Enka Hills.  Asheville Area Habitat is recruiting talented women - construction experience is appreciated but not necessary- to help build the 4th Women Build house in Buncombe County.

Construction starts Saturday, February 7th and will continue through mid-May.  Required hours are 8:30am-3:30pm and work takes place Tuesday through Saturday. To reserve your spot, please visit www.ashevillehabitat.org and then hit the VolunteerUp link to sign up to volunteer.

You will be directed to the Volunteer Up website.  You will need to register as a new volunteer (unless you've already registered).  Please complete the form and MAKE SURE TO CHECK that you are a member of the Women Build team (at the bottom of the page). You can then sign up for the date(s) you would like to volunteer.  You may choose to sign up for the wait list in the case that someone is unable to make their scheduled dates.

Please, only sign up for dates that you are sure you will work, as we want everyone who is interested in this special project to have the opportunity to participate.  We promise that you will enjoy the company of fellow volunteers and feel good about helping a family in need of safe and decent housing.
STIVER FAMILY SETS THE STAGE FOR FUNDRAISING
The Stiver Family Foundation generously provided a multi-year leadership gift to Women Build for 2008, 2009 and 2010.  Two of the family members - Jenna Harrison (L) and Melissa Rush (R) - are pictured here accepting quilt squares from Asheville Area Habitat.  These handmade house-themed quilts are made by longtime Habitat supporter Laura Casey.  They are individually made, mounted and framed and presented to major donors as an expression of our gratitude. Thanks again to the Stiver Family Foundation for supporting Women Build for not one, but three, years!
FAMILY UPDATE

Anton and Svetlana Alipa spent three of their December Saturdays at the construction site, logging 36 hours of Sweat Equity to date.  They have a total of 400 hours to complete before closing on their Habitat house.
